Seattle artist Mary Coss makes gestural sculpture inspired by life’s stories. Born in Detroit and raised in an atmosphere of politics, art, and spirituality she received her MFA from Syracuse University in an interdisciplinary sculpture and media department. Coss’ extensive exhibition record includes a recent show in Sweden where she engaged in an artist run gallery and cultural exchange with Candyland Arts Center in Stockholm. Her public work is in numerous collections including Seattle Housing Authority and McNeil Island Corrections Center, and several educational institutions.
Coss has an extensive background in community arts. Working as a space ranger with Pomegranate Center, she collaborates on community built gathering places. Teaching currently includes public art workshops with underserved youth for SEED and Coyote Central in Seattle, as well as studio and community art classes at Antioch University.
